Taylor Swift Empowers Women and Helps Wildlife at the VMAs

From Demi Lovato’s rocking performance to Kayne’s unexpected speech, there was a lot of excitement going around this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Taylor Swift took home the Video of the Year Award for the song “Bad Blood” and, as always, impressed the crowd by being an awesome example of girl power.

In the Bad Blood music video, Taylor and her friends dress up as fierce soldiers, each taking on a different persona. When the announcers called Taylor to the stage, the group of girls walked on stage to accept the award together. She finished off her acceptance speech with a moving quote: “There’s been a lot of discussion this video and what it means, but I’m just happy that, in 2015, we live in a world where boys can play princesses, and girls can play soldiers.”

Her speech wasn’t the only thing that made her stand out as an activist and a role model Sunday night. Her new music video for “Wildest Dreams” premiered. The scenery in this video is beautiful, capturing all kinds of wildlife species. The most exciting part of the video comes at the end, though, where viewers learn that all proceeds from the video will be donated to Wild Animal Conservation efforts.

Needless to say, viewers left the Video Music Awards inspired by Taylor and her activism. I can’t wait to see where she goes next in her career.
